I’ve been champing at the bit to spill the beans about this one and now I can finally reveal I have a story in an incredible collection of cyberpunk tales coming out this summer: Night, Rain, And Neon.
Curated and edited by esteemed SF author Michael Cobley for NewCon Press, Night, Rain, And Neon will be released on 1st July, the anniversary of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer – one of my favourite books of all time!
It will be a celebration of the genre as well as a look at how it has changed since its inception in the eighties. Many have questioned its relevance these days – has it become nothing more than a shallow aesthetic? – but I think the stories collected here by the likes of Gary Gibson, Jeremy Szal, Corey J. White, and Justina Robson will prove the sceptics wrong. (Judge Dredd author Joseph Elliott-Coleman is also along for the ride on this one, I’m really excited to see how he’s tackled the brief!)
It’s a real privilege to sit alongside such brilliant authors and I’m very grateful to Mike for asking me to contribute a story. My piece ‘Forever in Scotland’ is set in a future where singularity technology, the ability to live forever through machine and medicine, has come and gone. I’ve leaned heavily into noir, aiming for that sweet crossover point between SF and crime that made me fall in love with Neuromancer, and hopefully I’ve done it justice.
You can preorder Night, Rain, and Neon from the NewCon website here.
Bring on the summer!
