Bonjour! After having a great time at Edinburgh International Book Festival (was fantastic event with Kim Sherwood and Cailean Steed, a special one for sure) I’ve got a little break before diving back in next month.
I have a lot of events on in September so I thought I would do a post just to highlight them. It’s gonna be fun but busy but fun but also, busy. I’m looking forward to it and hope to see some of you there!
September is, of course, Bloody Scotland month – one of my favourite festivals and I will be returning but I’m heading to the wonderful city of Stirling a bit early this year for Speakeasy Stirling (Fri 4th), a fantastic night of readings run by Stirling Makar Kevin P. Gilday.
Next up, I’m off to Ink & Quill bookshop in Montrose (Thu 10th) to chat to author Lawrie Johnstone about Rat Race. This will be my first time there and am really looking forward to it. I’ve never been to an event at an indie bookshop that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed – the passion and dedication they put into the industry is irreplaceable.
Then it is time: Bloody Scotland. The country’s biggest crime festival and one of my all-time favourites. This year’s guest curator is Denise Mina, one of our very best, who has put together an incredible list of events. (SA Cosby, in the Golden Lion, having a Tennents with Lee Child? Come on!)
I’ll be taking part in the Gory Glesga panel (Sun 20th) alongside only the finest new Scottish crime writers: Martin Stewart, Eva Macrae and the award-winning (probably multi-award-winning by the time of the panel) Frances Crawford. This is the jewel in the calendar of the crime writing year, in my humble opinion. Oh, and anyone who has a ticket for the ‘You the Jury’ events over the weekend might also notice a familiar face in the dock.
Finishing off the month with a couple of free events: first at St Leonards Library in East Kilbride (Thu 24th) and then at Byres Road Book Festival (Sat 26th) in the west end of Glasgow where I’ll once again share the stage with the inimitable Martin Stewart, who will be grilling me Paxman-style about Rat Race and terrible puns.
